Datacap Chip and Pin (EMV) Certification Announced (Chase Paymentech)

Chalfont, PA – Datacap is pleased to announce that NETePay software for Chase Paymentech Canada has been fully certified and now supports EMV (chip and PIN) transactions. POS software developers can now add chip and PIN payments, and perform interoperability testing with Chase Paymentech Canada without delay. Software using NETePay can then be installed in merchant locations, well before the liability shift October 1, 2010.

EMV chip card technology is a significant advance in fraud prevention compared to magnetic-stripe cards. With EMV chip cards, cardholder account data is stored on a microprocessor on the card. Combining the EMV cards with cardholder PINs allows substantial reduction in card fraud, most notably counterfeiting and lost-and-stolen card fraud. Most developed countries have implemented or committed to EMV technology. Datacap is pleased to move forward on this initiative with Chase Paymentech, a banking and payment processing industry leader in Canada and in the United States.

The availability now of EMV certified NETePay gives developers and merchants advance time to upgrade their systems since the liability for fraudulent transactions shifts to non-EMV entities beginning October 1, 2010. POS software providers can now move forward with chip-and-PIN, protecting their customers while allowing the many significant benefits of integrated payments, including chip-and-PIN. Furthermore, looking ahead, after 2015, magnetic stripes will no longer be accepted on Interac debit cards.

This announcement is also important in that many software developers may choose to not go through the rigorous and expensive direct EMV certifications. Datacap now has a very simple solution for developers to add EMV chip-and-PIN payments that is easy and inexpensive to interface and qualify with. With this implementation NETePay handles all of the PIN pad and card payment information, further simplifying the developer interface and reducing the PCI scope footprint, which are major additional benefits to developers and their customers.
